What Camera Streaming Does

Camera streaming forwards a camera attached to your workstation — for example a webcam or a capture device — to your client device. The camera image is captured on the workstation, compressed, and delivered over your encrypted tunnel.

This is useful for checking a physical space, monitoring a workbench, or using a workstation camera that your client device does not have access to.

Starting a Camera Stream

1. Connect to the workstation as usual.
2. Open the camera view in the client.
3. Select the camera you want to use on the workstation.

The stream starts automatically. Close the camera view to stop the stream.

Permissions

On macOS, Wihaister needs camera access on the workstation:

1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
2. Enable Wihaister.
3. Restart the Wihaister service if the camera does not appear.

On Windows, the camera is available when the tunnel service is running in the system tray.

Quality and Performance

Camera frames are compressed on the workstation before being sent, so the stream adapts to your connection. If the image quality drops, it usually means your connection is congested — the stream will recover automatically as bandwidth becomes available.

Privacy

Camera frames travel through the same end-to-end encrypted QUIC tunnel as everything else in your session. Frames are never transmitted in plaintext, and a relay server used for fallback routing can only forward encrypted bytes — it cannot see your camera feed.
